Brazilian Gremio have rejected Wolves opening bid to sign winger Pepe, a report from Portuguese outlet TVI24, via Sport Witness, has claimed.

Wolves, along with Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham, were linked with a move for Pepe earlier in the window, and it now seems as though the Midlands club have made the first approach in the battle for his services.

According to the latest reports, Wolves have made an initial €15million offer to Gremio for Pepe, a bid which has already been rejected by the Brazilian giants.

It is now thought that Porto have also entered the race for Pepe, although the Portuguese champions have supposedly found it hard to get close to agreeing a deal for the 23-year-old winger.

As for Wolves, it remains to be seen if they will make a fresh bid for Pepe, although it has been suggested that Nuno’s side have so far made the biggest bid for the Brazilian, who has just over four years remaining on his current contract.

With a replacement for new Liverpool signing Diogo Jota yet to be found, it is good to see that Wolves are making their move here.

Pepe could be a useful option to fill that role, and it could be important for them to move quickly to secure his services, given the level of interest there is in the winger from elsewhere.

Indeed, it is encouraging to see that Wolves are the highest bidders as things stand, but with Gremio under no pressure to sell due to the amount of time there is remaining on Pepe’s contract, Nuno’s men may still have to up their offer if they are to get this deal done.
