Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for out of favour Stoke City fullback Moritz Bauer.

Sky Sports claimed yesterday that we were in talks with the defender over a potential loan (presumably to buy) deal this January transfer window as the club had identifed him as the man to play back up to Matt Doherty in our backline.

The Swiss-born, Austrian international is seemingly well-liked within the Stoke fanbase but he fell hugely out of favour under former manager Gary Rowett and only has 20 appearances to his name – with six of those coming this season, but not since September.

Their new manager Nathan Jones had said on Monday he was “excited to work with the player’ but if reports are correct that has quickly changed – or more likely the reports have come on the back of him saying that as he did dismiss any speculation from what I read.

Sky say we are in talks, and Bauer would only come in as competition for Doherty given his performances for us so far this year, but it seems a strange deal to me based on the little I know of the player.

Looking at the reaction on social media, few are believing it – certainly from Stoke’s side.
