Wolverhampton Wanderers fired off a warning to the leaders at the top end of the Championship on Saturday.

A lot had been made of Wolves needing to be ‘more dynamic’ in front of goal ahead of the Rotherham United game.

For Wolverhampton Wanderers to pull off back-to-back promotions and return to the Premier League, we need more goals.

Wolves had scored just 38 goals in 31 games ahead of this fixture, the lowest tally of the top 10 sides in the Championship.

But whilst Wolves Head Coach Kenny Jackett was contemplating a move into the loan market, his current crop of players showed just what they can do.

Benik Afobe scored twice whilst Nouha Dicko, Dave Edwards and Bakary Sako all got on the scoresheet in a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

Wolves may remain five points off the play-off places, but are now only nine points adrift of automatic promotion as the top of the Championship tightens up as the leaders slip.

‘In the first 30 minutes we played as well as we have done for months. We passed the ball well, controlled the game and the key goal in the Championship is the first one and we got it with a very well-taken finish from Benik Afobe.’ Jackett told the the BBC.

He continued: ‘We followed that up with Dicko’s goal, which made it a very good start, and as the home side you are looking for that.

‘We were too loose after that and quite scruffy with our defending. That aside, after that period our play on the counter-attack was very good and obviously we were able to finish and go further ahead.

‘We went for it and we need to because we have to keep the pressure on what looks a very good top six or seven teams. A play-off place is realistic. If we can average two points a game between now and the end season we will be unlucky not to get in the top six.’
