Wolves can lift the title

Yesterday we reported on Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett’s view on the promotion chase, with Wolves just 8 points short of leaders Bournemouth.

But today Dave Edwards is shooting for the stars with his ambitions as he believes that Wolverhampton Wanderers are in major contention not just for promotion, but for lifting the Championship trophy come May.

His thought process is that we have already had our wobble and remain just eight points behind leaders Bournemouth.

We’ve seen what Bournemouth have to offer at Molineux last month and without the interference of an incompetent referee we would have won.

As it happened it added to our five game losing streak. A blip which cost us momentum.

But remove that blip from our record and our title credentials become clearer, we would have lost just twice in 21 games and averaged 2.05 points per game. An average which is higher than the leaders Bournemouth.

“We`re not far off the top – eight points – but from February onwards, you can easily pick up 10 points on teams.

“We just need to keep winning games and I`m sure we`ll be up there come the end of the season.’ Edwards told Birmingham Mail.

He continued: “The last time we were promoted from the Championship we had that little wobble in January-February time.

“We like to think we`ve had our wobble now, we had our dismal run in November. If we`d have won just two of those games we`d be right up there, but we`ve reacted by winning games, playing good football, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets.

“That`s the mantra at the club and I really think we can get up there.
