It’s been reported this week that Wolverhampton Wanderers have been knocked back in our bid to purchase Jonny Castro Otto on a permanent basis from parent club Atletico Madrid.

The 24-year-old signed a season-long loan with us over the summer and to date, the now Spanish international, has made 21 starting appearances for head coach Nuno Espirito Santo as he made the left side of the defence his own. He even contributed his maiden goal for the club in our 2-0 victory over Southampton.

With him being a popular member of the squad and firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite, the fact we apparently didn’t have a buy clause in his deal has now caused a few headaches as it’s been suggested by foreign outlet Mundo Deportivo that our initial attempts to secure his future have been fruitless as the La Liga club want him to return next summer.

With Jonny progressing better than anyone thought initially, I assume vague talks of a permanent fee back when the loan was secured are now very wide of the mark and it’s simply a matter of Atleti trying to maximise his fee – especially as they chase a deal for Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.
