SeeThe Light….

For the first time since the end of this seasons opening match against Watford, I feel some genuine optimism regarding our progress this season. To be perfectly honest I have only started to feel this way some hours since the match ended yesterday but the more I think about it the more optimistic I feel.

After watching yesterdays 1-1 draw with Plymouth I came away thinking that on the plus side we were playing well, in fact very well for most of the match – but on the minus side we simply threw away two more valuable points, by unquestionably failing to turn just a few of the many excellent opportunities we created into goals.

Furthermore the continuing sidelining of FE became even less easier to comprehend. Anyway I was finally left with a feeling of frustration which as most of the seasoned campaigners on here will understand is de regueure or par for the course. So since then, what has happened to transmogrify my frustration into optimism?

Quite simply it came from further analysis of the fact that we are starting to play very well. As a team for some of the Norwich game and most of todays game we were playing IMO positive fast and entertaining play which if continued with would compare directly with the quality of football we achieved mid-way through last season. Four Players which when added/played together have reinvigourated the team and caused this radical change.

1. Foley-IMO our best signing since Kites.

2. Gray- IMO our next best signing. I hope those of us who until a fortnight ago seemed unable to give a proven quality player a decent amount of time to bed into the team will be man/woman enough to repent the errors of their ways – and welcome a full back able to more than fill the boots of Jackie Mac…

3. KH – At last a fixture in the team! Bearing in mind that the last time we played football of the quality I witnessed yesterday was just before KH`s pancreatic illness – this should hardly be a surprise to me, you, or practically any other Wolves Supporter [other than MM!]

4. [Again hardly a surprise] The team reacts well to a bit of Fanny! If we are to benefit from two full backs launching attacks down the wings then our two CH`s need to be strong enough to cope with any counter attacks. The reintroduction of Jody is our best and in truth only viable option until we are able to spend enough to buy what it will cost to get a young, strong and pacy CH [wont be cheap!] during the transfer window. As I have long winged on about Mick should IMO done this 3 or 4 months ago – rather than add yet another striker…

So there you have it.

The effect/improvement on the whole team has been there for all to see over the past two matches and is as almost as marked as the reinvigourisation of England by the addition of Richards/Barry and Heskey. As long as this improved balance continues then we will win more matches and score more goals.

I do still 100% believe that we will score more goals with Freddy in the team but if we continue to create the number of chances we managed against Norwich and especially Argyle then I feel as I stated here at the beginning – OPTIMISM – which I felt

I should share with others who like me were feeling a bit frustrated and down by our two-paces forward, six-paces back progress so far this season. After all -OUT OF DARKNESS COMETH LIGHT…so I`m off to score a good pair of shades next week!
