prof·li·gate Pron.[prof-li-git, -geyt] adj Recklessly wasteful.

Strangely enough, one of the few words not used by Glenn Hoddle during his reign, but one now being used by fans, commentators, and Mick McCarthy to describe Wolves inability to make the most of their chances.

Wolves earned a point away to Plymouth on Saturday, but in reality, it was 2 points dropped.

A single Stephen Elliott goal was all Wanderers had to show for their first half dominance and were made to pay in the 61st minute when Nick Chadwick found an equaliser for the home side.

True, Luke McCormak played a blinder in goal, denying Michael Kightly, Stephen Elliot and Andy Keogh, but there is simply no excuse for only converting one of the 14 shots on target.

Wolves first half dominance was such that despite a second half rally following a switch to 4-3-3, Plymouth managed one corner to Wolves 14.

Which left Mick McCarthy ruing the fact that his side could easily have been home and dry well before Chadwick’s equaliser, and should have been.

That level of finishing is simply not good enough to get Wolves promoted, and certainly wouldn’t be enough to keep them in the top flight.

Yes the performance was good, yes the effort was there, but results, and points are what counts, and to average two a game, Wolves have to find their form in front of goal, and do it fast.
