Wolves are interested in signing Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo, a report from a print edition of Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, has claimed.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in need of a right-back following the departure of Matt Doherty to Tottenham earlier this summer, and it seems as though Semedo – whose business is dealt with by a certain Jorge Mendes – has emerged as a candidate to fill that role.

According to the latest reports, Wolves are the latest club to show a genuine interest in Semedo, who it seems could be available this summer.

While it was claimed earlier in the window that Barcelona are keen to retain the services of Semedo, it is now thought that new coach Ronald Koeman is keen to sign Ajax’s Sergino Dest, meaning the Portuguese international could now be free to leave the Nou Camp this summer.

But despite that, it seems Semedo will still not be cheap for Wolves to sign, with Barca apparently demanding €40-50million for the defender, meaning the Midlands club would have to break their transfer record to complete this deal.

Having joined Barcelona from Benfica three years ago, Semedo has gone on to make 124 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish giants, scoring twice.

From a footballing perspective, this could certainly be something of a coup for Wolves, given the profile of the 26-year-old and their need for a right-back.

However, this is clearly not going to be a cheap signing for Wolves to make, meaning they will have to be certain they can afford it in the current climate, especially given they may yet be looking to strengthen other areas of their squad as well in what remains of the current transfer window.
