Report: Wolves suffer transfer blow in pursuit of £36k-per-week midfielder

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of Franck Kessie, with Calciomercato revealing the £36k-per-week midfielder ‘will remain’ at AC Milan ‘for the moment’. Arsenal have made an approach for Kessie but were rebuffed in their efforts to sign him, so it remains to be seen if Wolves stand a chance of luring him to Molineux.

Nuno Espirito Santo does have Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker at his disposal, but Saiss & Dendoncker have operated in defence this season while Moutinho is in the eve of his career. The 33-year-old will need a long-term replacement and Birmingham Live say Nuno wants a defensive-minded player.

Kessie has been on their radar for some time. He joined Milan permanently last summer after a two-year loan but initially struggled for consistency. The 23-year-old was tipped for a departure earlier in the campaign, but he’s since turned things around at the San Siro and may be retained by the Rossoneri this summer.

Kessie has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating two goals. In Serie A, the Ivorian international has completed 88% of his 865 passes, created 22 chances, won 40% of his aerial duels, made 17 successful dribbles (65%), blocked 20 shots/crosses/passes, made 17 clearances and averaged a tackle (37) or interception (15) every 34 minutes.

He’d be a good addition to the Wolves squad, but the Midlands outfit may struggle to sign him.
