Wolves are contemplating the prospect of making an offer to sign Athletic Bilbao defender Unai Nunez, a report from The Times has claimed.

Nunez has made 76 appearances in all competitions for Bilbao, and was handed his international debut for Spain last year, with the defender now seemingly attracting attention from elsewhere.

According to the latest reports, Wolves are considering a bid of £25million for the centre back, as they look to strengthen their side, and add some much-needed numbers to it, ahead of the new campaign.

Indeed, it seems there may be an opportunity for Wolves to take advantage of Nunez’ current contract situation at Bilbao as they look to complete this move.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Nunez’ current deal in Bilbao, but that does include a €30million release clause, and Athletic’s sporting director Rafa Alkorta has recently confirmed that the 23-year-old is holding off putting pen to paper on a new deal that would surely alter that clause in some way.

With that in mind, this could certainly be a more than useful piece of recruitment for Wolves if they can pull it off over the next few weeks.

Nunez does look to be a very impressive, and indeed promising, young centre back, who could provide some much-needed reinforcement for a Wolves side that is worryingly low on numbers in pretty much every area of the pitch.

As a result, this could be something of a coup for Wolves if they can pull it off, with Nunez already integrating himself into the Spain squad, and previous interest from a number of other Premier League sides including Arsenal, Everton and West Ham reported in Nunez.
