Report: Premier League rivals targeting 28-y/o Wolves man

|

Tottenham are interested in signing Wolves defender Matt Doherty, a report from Sky Sports has claimed.

Doherty once again enhanced his reputation last season with a string of impressive performances at both domestic and European level, making 50 appearances in all competitions as Nuno’s men finished seventh in the Premier League and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Now it seems as though the 28-year-old is attracting some strong attention from elsewhere, with the latest reports claiming that Spurs are keen on a move for Doherty.

As yet, no bid is said to have gone in for Doherty, although it does appear as though Spurs have been given some indication as to just how much a move for the defender might cost them.

It is thought that the Republic of Ireland international could be available for around £12million this summer, although with three years remaining on his contract at Molineux, Wolves are in a strong position to negotiate any offer that comes in for the full-back.

With that in mind, you feel that Wolves ought to be demanding more than that £12million for Doherty.

Having been a key figure for the club last season, it does seem as though that is a relatively small amount to let the defender go for, especially considering the ambitions the club ought to have for this season and beyond.

Indeed, having struggled at times with a small squad last season, you feel Wolves ought to be adding to their numbers rather than reducing them, meaning it will be interesting to see how this plays out – and what effect it could have on other potential business – over the coming weeks.
