Former England defender Danny Mills has claimed that a number of big clubs across Europe would be interested in appointing Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, should they be given the chance to do so.

It was only announced on Sunday night that Nuno has signed a new three-year contract with Wolves that is set to keep him at Molineux until the end of the 2022/23 season, although it seems Mills believes that may not put some of Europe’s big guns off a move for the 46-year-old in the near future.

Speaking to Football Insider about Nuno, Mills claimed: “There will be clubs sniffing around him, some big clubs.

“Who knows what the Barcelona situation is going to be. And how long will Zidane be at Real Madrid? You just do not know in football.

“It was a very good idea to get him signed up long-term. I cannot see why he would not be at the top of the list for one of the next big jobs in management.”

Explaining why he believes Nuno could be in line for such a big role in the future, Mills added: “He speaks several languages so he can communicate with lots of players in their own tongue. He is young, forward thinking, progressive and can clearly deal with fixture congestion.

“Let’s just say Tottenham, and something happens with Jose Mourinho. You would say, ‘Nuno Espirito Santo? Yes, please. You would have him immediately. He could replace Mourinho.”

In all fairness, it is hard to argue with Mills’ point here.

Having taken Wolves as far as he has in such a short space of time, while keeping them competitive on all fronts in the process of doing that, you can certainly see why any number of clubs might be interested in Nuno.

However, what you have to take into account, is whether or not Nuno would want to leave Wolves any time soon.

The fact that he has just signed that new deal suggests not, and if the club continue to go in the direction they currently are under him, he may turn down any interest that emerges in the hope of doing something really quite special at Molineux.

Indeed, with that new contract now behind them, Wolves are in control when it comes to any attempts to prise Nuno away from them in the near future, so this ought to not be too much of a concern for Wolves fans any time soon.
