Opinion: Wolves should consider Queens Park Rangers star if Morgan Gibbs-White leaves

Morgan Gibbs-White could have an uncertain future at Wolverhampton Wanderers after underperforming this season while being disciplined for breaching lockdown regulations from the Government amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 20-year-old made only four Premier League appearances in 2019/20 and ended up in the reserves after his lack of progress, so a loan move away might be the best option if he’s unable to dethrone Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker and Bruno Jordao.

A lot of supporters want Gibbs-White moved on this summer, but if Wolves were eyeing a replacement they should look no further than Eberechi Eze. The 21-year-old is coming off the back of an outstanding season at Queens Park Rangers and would be a considerable upgrade on Gibbs-White.

Eze joined QPR from Millwall in 2016 and has gone on to make 103 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and making 13 assists. The England U21 international has been sensational this season, scoring 12 goals, making eight assists, creating 69 chances and making 111/177 successful dribbles in 37 Championship games.

Wolves have only signed three English players in the last two years, but they’re currently on the hunt for Danny Loader, so it’s clear they’re open to domestic-based players if they fit the criteria. Eze is young, versatile and needs to play at a higher standard to boost his development.

Back in March, the 21-year-old had £20m price tag on his head and was linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, so he’s not out of reach for Wolves. The Midlands outfit won’t have to match his asking price given the current climate, however, so Eze could be available for less money this summer.
