Reports in the past week have suggested key players such as Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota are wanted by sides such as Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

Any season over the past 30 years might suggest that this is the end for both players, but given the state of this season, the club genuinely has no reason to be bullied by these fading greats.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Jota is wanted by Mikel Arteta, while Raul Jimenez has repeatedly been linked to both clubs.

Look at the league table: yes, Manchester United sit above them by two points, while Arsenal trail by three, but it’s the fact they have been competing with them not once, but two seasons on the bounce.

Furthermore, take a look at the Europa League: again, United are at the same stage, looking likely to get through to the final eight of the competition. Arsenal, on the other hand, have been knocked out by Olympiacos – the side who Wolves of course now face.

How should the season end?

Totally void the entire season

Finish with the current table

Try and complete it in the summer

It’s not as if you see Arsenal and United now and assume that they will be a better team than Wanderers next year. Both have been on a downward curve for a while now, and when you compare that to the up and coming Wolves, it’s hard to predict who will be in a better position this time next season. For that reason, Wolves must make sure that they are not bullied by these two teams, and make sure if they do sell, they sell to either a team abroad or one of Manchester City and Liverpool so that they do not improve a direct rival.

Of course, for a player such as Diogo Jota or Raul Jimenez, the reputation of those two clubs must be tempting, but if trophies and success are what they want, they might just be better off staying there until a better team comes along.

Based on the previous, Wolves have the mandate to not buckle at any of their requests and should be demanding huge sums of fees for their players. If the player wants to go and the offer is right, then sure, but there’s no reason why Wolves should be giving into pressure from either of those clubs given the past two campaigns.
