Opinion: 4 strikers represented by Jorge Mendes who Wolves could sign this summer

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to sign another striker this summer as backup for Raul Jimenez. The Midlands outfit have used advisor and agent Jorge Mendes when searching for recruitments, so which of his clients could they make a move for?

Should the football season be cut short now or delayed for weeks/months due to Covid-19?

End the season now

Delay for weeks/months

Andre Silva has contributed 12 goals in 26 games while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and is on Wolves’ radar. The 24-year-old was linked with the Midlands outfit last summer and has had a hand in 73 goals in 164 games in his career, which may be worth taking a gamble on. His asking price was €30m (£23.2m) in 2019 and his wage demands may be around €80k-per-week (£74.3k-per-week).

Carlos Vinícius has scored 20 goals and made 12 assists in his debut season at Benfica and may have attracted interest from a lot of clubs. The 25-year-old only joined Benfica from Napoli last summer and has an £84.3m release clause, so he could be a tricky signing to get over the line.

Artem Dzyuba reportedly hired Mendes to broker a move to the Premier League and was heavily linked with Wolves among other clubs, but a deal never materialised. The 31-year-old has since contributed 27 goals in 28 games this season, so Nuno should consider a return.

Nelson Oliveira nearly joined Wolves in January but the Midlands outfit were unwilling to match AEK Athens’s valuation on him. They could try again this summer, however, as the 28-year-old has contributed 17 goals in 22 games this season and played in England before – 20 goals in 70 games for Norwich City – Oliveira could be a shrewd signing if Wolves will meet his £5.5m release clause.

Nuno Espirito Santo brought in Leonardo Campana in January and has Renat Dadashov in the U23s, both of which players have been included in their Europa League squad, but Wolves need a more experienced striker who can take the scoring burden off Jimenez. Time will tell who they’ll bring in.
