Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed a new deal for Taylor Perry, revealing the 18-year-old’s ‘option has been extended’ for another season.

Perry was coming to the end of a one-year deal signed in 2019, but he’s risen through the youth ranks to the first-team, so a contract extension is more than deserved.

Perry joined Wolves 11 years ago and has gone on to make 58 appearances for the U18s, scoring seven goals and making one assist. He’s scored two goals in 19 games for the U23s and boasts three first-team appearances.

The 18-year-old made his senior debut in Wolves’ EFL Cup win over Reading (September 25, 2019). His second first-team appearance came in their EFL Cup defeat to Aston Villa (October 30) and his third outing was in the Europa League win over Besiktas (December 12).

Perry is unlikely to get regular first-team football next season with Pedro Neto and Morgan Gibbs-White for competition in his preferred role, however, so he may have to consider a loan move away for the sake of his development. He’s outgrown the reserves and needs a better standard of football to improve.

Nevertheless, Perry has been rewarded for his progress so far and should be optimistic ahead of next season.
