Official: Wolves confirm new deal for 20 y/o, midfielder’s ‘option has been extended’

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed a new deal for Sadou Diallo, revealing the 20-year-old’s ‘option has been extended’ for another season. Diallo was coming to the end of a two-year deal signed in August 2018, but he’s progressed enough to warrant keeping.

The defensive-midfielder has been a regular for the U23s but is yet to make a first-team appearance, so he was loaned out to League One for more competitive football. Diallo has struggled to hold down a starting place, however, so he’s got a lot to prove in 2020/21.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Diallo joined Wolves from Manchester City in 2018 and has gone on to make 25 appearances for the U23s, scoring three goals and making three assists. He’s outgrown reserve-team football and joined Accrington Stanley on loan to boost his development, but he’s not featured regularly.

The 20-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Stanley but has spent the majority of the campaign as an unused substitute. Diallo’s disappointing loan spell may harm his chance of first-team football back at Wolves, let alone having Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Leander Dendoncker, Romain Saiss, Bruno Jordao and Morgan Gibbs-White for competition, so his long-term future is in doubt.

Nevertheless, the Englishman has done enough to warrant retaining for another season, so his future is still in his own hands.
