Wolverhampton Wanderers were back in Premier League action earlier this evening as we hosted Manchester United at the Molineux, and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad were looking to bounce back to winning ways – in difficult fashion – following our weekend defeat to Burnley.

There’s plenty still to play for in the campaign of 2018/19 and a great season could still get even better.

Indications are it will get better, as although the visitors opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game, Diogo Jota re-established level terms in the 25th minute and we went into the halftime break level.

Ashley Young’s double yellow card saw him sent from the pitch just ahead of the hour mark and down to ten men we made it count and Chris Smalling was credited with an own goal in minute 77.

United had dominated chances, but it was an organised display from Wolves and we made it count when it mattered.

And that’s all that matters.

Speaking to the BBC following the end of the tie, Santo said of the performance.

“It was a good night, a good game of football. What more can you ask? We know it was very difficult. The extra effort the boys had to make and how they react to the first goal – I’m really pleased. I give credit to United for how they shaped themselves, it was difficult to recover the ball. Even after the red card it is always difficult against United. We created spaces and had more chances. If there’s one thing I can complain about it is being more clinical. The preparation starts now for the semi-final – we will rest and prepare for a difficult game. A fantastic challenge for us.”
