With the end of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign drawing near, some outlets are already looking ahead to the summer and the transfer rumour mill is slowly warming up and this week we’ve been linked with Southampton fullback Cedric Soares.

The 27-year-old arrived at St Mary’s Stadium back in 2015 from Sporting Lisbon and he has just over 100 appearances to his name in their shirt. His time with them also saw significant international action for Portugal, and he’s won the European Championships the other year.

In recent times as they struggled in the top flight, he has significantly struggled with his form and this season he’s been replaced by an Academy graduate and farmed out to Inter Milan, and that loan spell hasn’t been great so far.

tuttomercatoweb reported on Monday that with Inter unlikely to take up the buy clause on the loan deal, they have some expectation that Jorge Mendes will try and take his client to the Molineux as competition for Matt Doherty.

Given his current form he would only be back up and the Mendes link is obvious now, but surrounded by international colleagues like Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio, it might help reinvigorate him and get him back to his earlier best.

He would then certainly be an asset to us moving forward.
