Loan watch: Midfielder could play in Cup quarter-final this afternoon

|

Christian Herc has been short of playing time since joining Viktoria Plzen on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but the 21-year-old could feature in their MOL Cup quarter-final clash with FK Mladá Boleslav on Wednesday afternoon.

Plzen welcome Bolka to the Doosan Arena with a place in the semi-finals at stake, having already beaten FC Hlucin in the third-round and Chlumec n/Cidl in the last-16. Herc has only made one Fortuna Liga appearance this season, but he played a full 90 minutes against Hlucin and was in the matchday squad against Chlumec.

The Slovakian U21 international returned to the first-team in February and finally made an appearance in Plzen’s 4-0 win over 1.FK Pribram, so there’s a chance he could be given the nod by Adrián Guľa. In addition to Plzen and Bolka, Sigma Olomouc/Jablonec, Slovacko/Slovan Liberec and Sparta Prague/Banik Ostrava are the other remaining sides in the Cup.

Herc will be keen to make up for lost time after spending the season on the periphery. The midfielder still has another year on his loan deal at Plzen, and the Czech Republic outfit have the option to sign Herc permanently if he impresses, so Wednesday’s clash could be a big moment for him.

Will Viktoria Plzen sign Christian Herc on a permanent deal?

Yes

No

Plzen have only won one of their last four head-to-heads with Bolka and were knocked out at the semi-final stage when they last met in the Cup (2015/16), so Guľa’s men will be in for a difficult afternoon.
