Lazio ‘studying’ 23 y/o, club have ‘special relationship’ with Wolves, ‘new business’ unlikely

According to Corriere Dello Sport via Sport Witness, Lazio are ‘studying’ Diogo Jota and hope their ‘special relationship’ with Jorge Mendes will help them in their pursuit of ‘new business’ this summer. It’s hard to see Wolverhampton Wanderers letting the 23-year-old leave, however, as he’s been in fantastic form this season.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Jota joined Wolves in 2018 and has gone on to make 120 appearances in all competitions, scoring 43 goals and making 19 assists. Before the season was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Portuguese international had been outstanding, scoring 15 goals and making six assists in 37 games across the board. Why would Wolves sell him?

The Midlands outfit do have a working relationship with Lazio after Mendes helped broker deals for Wolves to sign Pedro Neto for £16.47m and Bruno Jordao for £8.28m last summer, but they won’t lose a valuable asset over it. Nuno Espirito Santo has been full of praise for Jota’s performances, so it’s hard to see him looking to cash in.

Wolves’ recruitment policy depends on retaining their best talents rather than being a selling club, plus Jota may not want to leave Molineux either. He’s enjoying the best form of his career and is in a squad full of talented players who are on the cusp of the Champions League (6th in the PL after 29 games).
