Wolves are in negotiations over the signing of Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has revealed.

With Jonny out for several months through injury, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will have to find cover on the left-hand side of their defence ahead of the new season, and it seems Ghoulam has emerged as a candidate to fill that role.

According to Pedulla’s latest update, Wolves are in talks about bringing the defender to Molineux this summer, with agent Jorge Mendes apparently involved in discussions over a deal.

Ghoulam has made 183 appearances in all competitions for Napoli since joining from French side St Etienne in 2014, twice winning the Coppa Italia during his time in Naples.

As things stand there are two years remaining on Ghoulam’s current contract with Napoli, securing his future at the Stadio San Paolo until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Having seen the lack of depth in their squad highlighted last season, it does feel as though they will have to add to their squad this summer.

If they are to do that, then they could certainly do much worse than bringing Ghoulam to Molineux in the next few weeks.

The full-back has plenty of experience of playing at top-level football from both a domestic and European perspective, and at 28-years-old is just approaching the peak of his career, meaning he could be just what Nuno’s men need if they are to secure a return to Europe next season.

Indeed, securing a signing such as this from a club the size of Napoli, feels like it would be the sort of statement of intent that Wolves need, to show that they are planning to compete with the Premier League’s top clubs again this season, and indeed beyond.
