Injury doubt for Wolves as midfielder could miss Brighton clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers could be without Morgan Gibbs-White against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday after the midfielder picked up an injury earlier in the week.

Gibbs-White came off early in Wolves U23s’ 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night and may not be risked over the weekend if he isn’t 100%. Nuno Espirito Santo could give Bruno Jordao the nod in his absence while Leander Dendoncker should also provide midfield cover on the bench.

It’s been a disappointing season for Gibbs-White. He’s made 14 appearances in all competitions for Wolves, racking up a meagre 712 minutes of playing time due to spending two months out with a serious back injury.

The 20-year-old only has 123 minutes of Premier League football under his belt and finds himself behind Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Romain Saiss and Dendoncker in the pecking order.

Gibbs-White’s last appearance came in Wolves’ 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in January and is the only top-flight outing he’s made since September 2019. The central midfielder has featured only three times in 2020 and may consider his options this summer.

The England u21 international can’t afford another season of inactivity at Molineux. He needs competitive football and many supporters believe Gibbs-White should be loaned out in 2020/21 as a result. It remains to be seen what he’ll decide, however.
