Ruben Neves revealed he wants to return to FC Porto before his career is up, as he wants to win a title for the Portuguese Primeira Liga side. The 23-year-old made 93 appearances in all competitions in his 12 years at Porto but never won domestic honours.
As per Transfermarkt, Neves finished second (2014/15), third (2015/16) and second (2016/17) before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017. Porto have won the Primeira Liga twice in the three seasons that followed and Neves wants to be a part of that in the future.
He told O Jogo: “I had the misfortune of not winning any title, it is one more reason to want to go back and fill this chapter that is missing in my career. If I have the opportunity, I would like to go back.”
The 23-year-old has made 125 appearances in all competitions for Wolves and recently has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Neves has three years remaining on his deal at Molineux, however, so the Midlands outfit are under no obligation to cash in.
With Wolves sitting sixth in the Premier League, just five points adrift of the Champions League places, Neves has a lot to stay for. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were in the last-16 of the Europa League before the season was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic too.
It’s not surprising Neves has an affinity with his boyhood club, but Wolves don’t need to worry about losing him in the near future.
