Ex-Wolves player Jamie Smith has been forced to retire due to injury. The MK Dons defender has been advised after seeing a specialist. Jamie had an operation at the end of last season but that has failed to clear up the problem.

Jamie, aged just 32, played 20 times for the Dons last season and was there vice captain.

The right back came through the ranks at Wolves and made 77 league appearance for the club and scored against Palace in a Play Off Semi Final. He moved on to Crystal Palace in 97, during his time there he spent a loan period at Fulham. In 2004 he joined Bristol City, then had a loan spell at Brentford before joining MK Dons in 2006.

Jamie told the Dons official site ‘The plan now is to spend some time with my family while I try and get my head round it. I’ll take stock then decide what I want to do next’

All the best for the future Jamie.
