Some people say, don’t ever go back as it never works out, I’m not sure who they are, but rumour has it Kenny Dalglish has said it recently.

Well, whoever said it, they appear to have had a whisper in the ear of Kevin Doyle, who despite all the rumours and links suggesting he was about to return to Reading following their promotion back to the Premier League, the 28-year old Wolves forward has stated that he will not be returning to Reading.

‘I don’t think, personally, you should ever go back. Everyone says it’s never the same. My four years was brilliant and I wouldn’t like to ruin that.’ he told Sky Sports.

He was quick to add, that he hasn’t turned down a move to Reading, he was just simply commenting on the speculation: ‘Not that I’ve had the option (to return), by the way. I’ve not spoken to Brian (McDermott), just to wish him all the best. They’ve had brilliant success the last two years and they’ve come up this year. They’ve got enough strikers and players.’

Brian McDermott initially signed Doyle for Reading in 2004 for a fee of £80,000 from Cork City, while we paid £6.5 million for him in 2009.

Following our relegation he has been linked with leaving Molineux, with a reported fee of around £4 million.
