Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a fee with Arsenal for a promising 21-year-old striker.

Wolves have made a move for Benik Afobe, a 6ft striker who has come through the academy at Arsenal.

Over the past four years he has picked up Football League experience on loan with the likes of Huddersfield Town, Reading, Bolton, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.

During those loan spells he made 79 appearances scoring 13 times.

But this season appears to be a breakthrough season for him, making the move to MK Dons in League One he has made 30 appearances scoring 19 goals, including a hat-trick against Colchester in November.

He was in Wolverhampton over the weekend for a medical and Wolves gaffer Kenny Jackett is hopeful of wrapping up the deal over the next 24 hours.

“We have agreed a fee with Arsenal for Benik Afobe and he is in the process of completing his medical this weekend.

“We will see how discussions go and hopefully we can close the deal early in the week.’ Jackett told the Wolves Official Website.

He continued: “He is a player I have followed for many years and has been brought up at a very good club and has the pace, power and goalscoring record that we need.

“He will help us in the second half of this season and the years to come.

“Like a lot of our players, I am sure he will be keen to prove himself in the Championship and we feel we will be getting him at a very good time.”
