£70k-per-week man reveals reasons for snubbing Wolves in the January window – report

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly after Spain international Dani Olmo in the January window, however, the youngster opted for a move to RB Leipzig instead.

And now in a recent interview, the player admitted to having offers from teams in both Germany, Spain, Italy and England, with teams such as Barcelona, AC Milan, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur all believed to be interested.

The 21-year-old had a peculiar rise to fame after joining Dinamo Zagreb as a youngster, leaving La Masia in the process. It’s worked out for him though, as he managed to get a move to RB Leipzig – a team who have to be considered one of the game’s biggest rising forces after dispatching last year’s Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur in the round of 16 in this season’s Champions League.

It was claimed in January that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side made a €25m offer for him, but ultimately nothing came to fruition in that sense.

However, when you consider that Leipzig – a side who have a fantastic reputation for developing young talent and have the mightily impressive Julian Nagelsmann at the helm – were after him, you can’t really blame him for his decision.

Did we do enough business in January?

Absolutely not. We're well short

Yes, we don't need to add anymore

Within a recent interview, Olmo – who reportedly earns £69.5k-per-week at his new club – shed some more light on his move, stating that despite offers from elsewhere, it was Leipzig who could offer him the most going forward.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he said: “I think it was the best option for me and still is,”.

“I had several offers, not just from Spain but also from Italy and England.

“But RB Leipzig were the team that offered me the most. Their sporting director visited me in Zagreb, and their coach called me and told me that he was interested in having me in his team. That was very important to me.”

It’s a shame for Wolves, as he would have been a big coup to pull off. Nevertheless, they shouldn’t cry over spilt milk, as they were ultimately competing with some enormous clubs.

Before coronavirus put a halt to football across Europe, Olmo was beginning to find his feet at Leipzig. He has made five appearances in total for them, scoring once and assisting once, so he will be looking to kick on once football resumes.

We’re not going to sign every target that we’re linked with otherwise we would end up bankrupt with 50 players.
While it’s interesting to be linked with top players, most of the stories are speculative and the club tends to keep schtum until a player signs on the dotted line.
