Wolves will be without 25-year-old against Espanyol, defender has been ‘left behind’

According to Tom Collomosse of the Daily Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers will be without Jonny Otto against Espanyol on Thursday. The 25-year-old has been ‘left behind’ after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Norwich City.

It’s a blow for Nuno Espirito Santo as Jonny has been a regular this season, making 38 appearances in all competitions, but it’s an opportunity for Ruben Vinagre to impress.

The 20-year-old should start at left-back on Thursday after returning from injury over the weekend. He’d previously been out of action with a hamstring problem that caused him to miss four Premier League games, but the Portuguese u21 international is now available for selection against Espanyol.

Vinagre won’t be 100%, however, as he only played for 10 minutes on Sunday – his first appearance since mid-January. Nuno doesn’t have much of a choice but to give the left-back the nod given the lack of defensive depth in Wolves’ squad.

After winning 4-0 in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash, the Midlands outfit are in pole position to reach the last-16.
