Wolves skipper discusses implications of Financial Fair Play situation – report

|

Wolves captain Conor Coady has come out and discussed whether or not Manchester City’s Champions League ban will impact the club.

With the English champions said to have committed “serious breaches” of UEFA’s rulings, the club have been handed a £25m fine and have been banned from European club competitions for the next two seasons.

In response to the ruling, they say are not surprised by the decision and will be appealing.

If such a ban is not overturned, it is bound to switch up the landscape within England for the next few years. For a side such as Wolves, it could open up a huge possibility of reaching the European Cup for the first time since 1960, as – presuming Manchester City finish in the top four – then the final position will go to the team who finishes fifth in the league.

The Express and Star asked the Wolves skipper whether or not such a ban would have an impact on how they operate. Unsurprisingly, he says not.

He said: “We want to finish the season as strong as possible, we really do. But that doesn’t matter what’s going on with other clubs elsewhere, in other competitions.

“It’s up to us to take it a game at a time, and that’s what we are doing. We’re improving with every single game.

“There are 12 league games left now, and it’s important that we improve in every game, and then see where we are at the end of the season.”

Knowing the power and wealth that City have behind their back, none of the teams circling the Champions League spaces should be counting their chickens just yet, as their appeal could well mean they get out of it.

As it stands, Wolves are just five points short of Chelsea in fourth place, and also just four points short of Spurs in fifth place, so they are definitely in striking distance of club football’s most prestige competition.
