Wilson is quite outstanding

‘Wilson is quite outstanding’ that’s the assessment of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson by Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Coach Kenny Jackett.

Jackett considered Coventry striker Callum Wilson as his top target this summer.

In July, The Express & Star had previously wrote: ‘Wolves boss Kenny Jackett returned to his desk ready to continue attempts to sign No 1 strike target Callum Wilson – as the rival bidders were revealed.’

But despite him proving to be our first choice option, we pulled out of the running to sign him as former Premier League side Norwich City and Bournemouth, a side described with ‘serious financial clout’, matched Coventry’s £3million valuation with the player eventually agreeing to move to Bournemouth.

After failing to land him, gaffer Kenny Jackett revealed he did not believe the player was worth the quoted sums and pulled our interest.

‘If a player is there right now, or at any time, and we can get them at the right price, we`ll do it,’ said Jackett to the E&S following his signing for Bournemouth.

Wilson has gone on to score 11 goals in 21 appearances this season and has made an appearance for England Under-21.

‘Wilson is quite outstanding at 11, (but) they have spread the goals around that forward line.” Wolves Head Coach Kenny Jackett told the Express & Star.

Meanwhile, with Wolves set to face him on Saturday, we have continued to struggle for goals and are on the back of a four game losing streak.

With Bournemouth considered one of the top sides in the league, Jackett is hopeful he can ‘work out’ a way to match them.

He added: “We want to be up there with these teams and with these clubs, If it is a test for us then they are ones we want. We want to work out if there is a way of matching these teams.

“They are the yardstick and Bournemouth will be as well.”
