Report: Interest ramps up for Wolves man as Premier League clubs circle

|

Dion Sanderson has only three senior appearances to his name, yet clubs from the Premier League are queuing up at the prospect of signing him in the summer.

The Wolves youngster has been on loan at Neil Harris’ Cardiff since the January window, and after failing to break into the team initially, his three games back-to-back seems to be enough for clubs in the division above to take notice.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham are planning on checking on his progress when football resumes, as well as Aston Villa, Brighton and Norwich.

Right now, the player is only worth £135,000 according to Transfermarkt, but in reality, Wolves would be demanding a lot more money, even if he has never appeared for the first-team in a competitive match.

The Mail do not provide an asking price from Wolves, but you can expect it to be reasonably decent due to the calibre of a team interested. However, he only has one year on his deal after this loan expires, so the club face risking him via the Bosman ruling at the end of that season, which would lead them to losing out on a lot of money.

Could Dion Sanderson join Wolverhampton Wanderers' first-team next season?

Yes

No

The defender, who predominantly played at centre-back for Wolves’ youth teams, has been playing at right-back for Cardiff due to an injury to Jazz Richards, which shows he has great versatility at the back.

However, with all of this talk about the player leaving, perhaps Nuno Espirito Santo will see this as a sign that he is closer to the first-team mould than he expected. Sanderson has been at the club ever since he was a boy, so surely both he and the club would like to see him flourish at Molineux.

If that was to happen, he would no doubt need some reassurances about getting game time, which could be pretty unlikely given that Wolves are probably likely to strengthen in that position after having such a successful campaign.

Time will tell as to what lies for Sanderson’s fate. He is only just enjoying his first spell as a senior, so he may fancy sticking with Neil Harris for the meanwhile as he grows in confidence.
