Over the weekend speculation surrounding Joao Mario resurfaced and again Wolverhampton Wanderers were being linked with the attacking midfielder.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Birmingham Mail) have reported that they understand he is now nearing an arrival at the Molineux from current club Inter Milan.

The story goes that whilst being out World Cup duty in Russia for Portugal, Jorge Mendes has been ‘probing’ his signing behind the scenes and the expectation is that having been allowed out on loan last season to West Ham United – 12 starts, two substitute showings and two league goals – Inter are willing to let the 25-year-old player move on this summer for the right price.

Having paid a reported £35million for him back in August 2016, what that right price is, remains open for debate but it’s not believed that we have yet submitted a formal bid, so how we are close to signing him is beyond me.

Everton and Bournemouth are also linked in the reports with an interest in him.

  • Wolves have been connected to so many players since promotion that the only players to be certain of is when the club makes an official announcement.
The likes of HITC, The TransferTavern, FootballFancast etc spout out anything that gets Wolves supporter’s attention but most is just journalistic rubbish! *SportWitness though is very different!!!
Mario may well be on his way to Molineux but as good as he probably is, is he a player Wolves need?
N’Diaye was a good player yet he was not signed and that goes to show that Nuno is looking for somone much better but as yet is to find either the player who fits the way Wolves play or at the right price!
Mario for me is a ‘no-go’ but then Wolves make good press with the money the club has and being Championship winners so guess the speculation will continue for a while yet.

    • It’s difficult, obviously I want to cover things but I’m picking and choosing speculation based on what I think is possibly a goer or flat-out nonsense and I say so. I’m beginning to hate this time of year with all the nonsense, even though it means the club are in the mix again.

  • We need to get thellwell too get his finger out, the club are dragging their heels a bit, and before anybody accuses me of panicking, far from it, we have to be realistic and although I believe we already have a team that can hold it’s own in the premiership and if we are to still finish higher than bottom half then we need a few more players.
The season starts in four weeks time, new players need to bed in and get used to their new surroundings we don’t want to be doing it into the start of the season!

    • Be interesting to know how harder clubs are digging in thinking there’s an extra million to be snared from negotiations etc as well.

  • we still need to sign a spine a striker (who scores goals in prem ) a midfield general ( so Neves can play ) a defender with prem experince ( to help lead the pack ) Players for today and not tomorrow ans also for a plan B
