Opinion: Wolves may have to pay £21.6m and £5.09m-a-year wages to sign Senegalese international
Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Idrissa Gueye as a replacement for Ruben Neves, but whether the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is worth signing remains to be seen.
Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to strengthen in the engine room and is eyeing Emmanuel Boateng, Morgan Sanson, John McGinn, Franck Kessie, Joao Palhinha and William Carvalho, but Gueye may be on their radar as Le10 Sport say his future at the Parc des Princes is uncertain.
Gueye joined PSG from Everton for £27m last summer and has gone on to make 108 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and making five assists. The Senegalese international has made 31 appearances across the board this season, but Le10 Sport believe his days may be numbered.
He was outstanding at Everton and impressed at PSG, but Wolves may be better off turning their attentions elsewhere. Gueye turns 31 in September and still commands a lofty asking price – his Transfermarkt market value is £21.6m and his CIES Football Observatory value is €20m-€30m (£17.83m-£26.74m). The Daily Star say his salary is £5.09m-a-year/£98k-per-week.
Wolves need a long-term addition to the engine room rather than a player who’s already peaked, so Gueye may not be worth the money.
