Opinion: Striker could join Wolves first-team next season after impressing out on loan
Niall Ennis joined Doncaster Rovers on a season-long loan in August and initially got off to a slow start with only one goal in his first 16 League One appearances, but the 20-year-old has turned things around in 2020 and could find himself knocking on the door of the first-team next season.
Ennis has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Rovers, scoring and creating 10 goals. He’s contributed five in his eight games, however, and is finally realising his potential. The former England U19 international looks a different player since the turn of the year and is doing everything in his power to get his parent club’s attention.

Nuno Espirito Santo gave Benny Ashley-Seal opportunities in the first-team this season – 22 minutes in Wolves’ EFL Cup defeat to Aston Villa and 45 minutes in Wolves’ FA Cup draw with Manchester United – so there’s no reason why Ennis can’t follow in his footsteps.
The 20-year-old has stiff competition from the likes of Raul Jimenez, Leonardo Campana, Adama Traore and potentially any striker brought in over the summer, but Nuno has shown there’s a pathway for youngsters to progress -Campana (19), Pedro Neto (19), Morgan Gibbs-White (20), Oskar Buur (21), Ruben Vinagre (20) and Bruno Jordao (21) are all first-team players.
