Opinion: Midfielder could return to Wolves first-team after impressing in the u23s

Bruno Jordao could be returning to Wolves’ first-team on a regular basis after impressing in the u23s – he was a standout performer in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has spent the majority of the season out with an ankle ligament injury that he picked up in Wolves’ EFL Cup win over Reading (September 25) before a setback in October then ruled him out for another two months.

Jordao was making a recovery in late-December and made the matchday squad in Wolves’ 3-2 win over Southampton (January 18), but his selection may have been down to a lack of available first-team players – Wolves’ bench contained Oskar Burr, Ryan Giles and Benny Ashley-Seal that day.

The Portuguese u21 international joined on a five-year deal from Lazio last summer and has made only two appearances in all competitions due to injury. Wolves didn’t pay £8m for Jordao to stay in the u23s, however, so Nuno Espirito will be happy to see his midfielder making good progress.

If the 21-year-old continues to impress, he could return to the first-team before the season comes to a close.
