Opinion: Loan exit couldn’t have gone worse for Wolves youngster

|

Sadou Diallo’s stint at Accrington Stanley has come to an end and won’t be remembered in a hurry. In September, the 20-year-old joined Stanley on a short-term loan until January 2020, but he spent the majority of his time on the bench or out of the matchday squad.

In four months, Diallo made just four appearances in all competitions. The midfielder made his debut in Accrington’s 3-1 defeat to Sunderland (September 14), coming off the bench in the second half, and didn’t feature in League One again for nearly three months.

His second league appearance came in Stanley’s 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers (December 7) where Diallo played a full 90 minutes at Prenton Park. The midfielder’s last appearance came a week later in their 4-1 win over Portsmouth. He was an unused substitute 12 times and left out of the squad on three occasions.

Diallo amassed a grand total of 261 minutes of football at Accrington and failed to make a single league appearance in October or November. The 20-year-old should return to Wolves on New Year’s Day and may consider another loan move away before the transfer window shuts.
