Linked £90m pairing with three Champions League wins wouldn’t start for Wolves – opinion

|

Wolves have been linked with some big names in the past week in Sami Khedira and James Rodriguez – but that doesn’t mean that they would slip straight into Nuno’s team.

Birmingham Live has reported that two bring these two players to the club, they might have to pay upwards of £90m for the privilege, and that’s before we’ve started to consider wages.

Between both Rodriguez and Khedira, they have three Champions Leagues from their time at Real Madrid, as well as having nine league titles between them from the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga respectively.

The report says that Real Madrid wants to recover the £71m they paid for Rodriguez, while Juventus might want to recuperate the £16.5m they spent on the 32-year-old.

But with both players playing in central midfield positions – albeit Khedira much more defensively and James Rodriguez much further forward – they may struggle to find their way into this Wolve side, especially if Nuno Espirito Santo maintains a 3-4-3 formation.

As Wolves fans will tell you, the Portuguese pairing of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho are essential to how this team play – with neither missing a league game all season – and you really can’t see either losing their space in a hurry.

Should we change our tactics for James Rodriguez?

Yes, he's top quality

Yes, he's top quality

No, why change what we're doing

James Rodriguez may have a few more options available to him as he has the ability to play on the flank, but the creative midfield is a bit of a different choice to the dynamic pairing of Diogo Jota and Adama Traore.

Therefore, if they were to buy both players, then it would either mean that at least one of them would be sitting on the bench in Wolves’ best XI next year, with the team sure to be able to jam all four into the same side.

Based on the fact that the club has two great central midfielders at the moment, there is no need to chase both of these players, even if they do have the luxury of Jorge Mendes to help get them over the line.
