Jay : The Happy Wanderer

Jay Bothroyd is a happy man. Having been snapped up by Mick McCarthy for free, the former Arsenal man finally feels like he has found his home.

‘Ever since I left Arsenal I seem to have been club-hopping and just moving around,

‘Coming to Molineux and playing with this team I think I’ve got my foundations settled and I’m enjoying my football again.’ he said earlier this week.

There has never been any question that Bothroyd possesses the tools to become a prolific goal scorer.

However, doubts have always surrounded the player`s attitude, doubts that first surfaced when he threw his shirt at the Arsenal bench when substituted in the 2000 Premier League Youth Cup Final. At Blackburn, a sending off for kicking Coventry’s Mattias Jonson to the ground did nothing to dispel them.

But now under the stewardship of Mick McCarthy, it’s a different Jay Bothroyd on show to the public.

His manager has done nothing but sing his praises since he became McCarthy’s first full signing since his arrival at Molineux.

Diligent on the training pitch and devastating in front of goal, his 3 goals this season have been worth 6 points, the familiar figure needed per game to ensure promotion.

Now approaching full fitness, Jay should soon be in a position to play his first full match since becoming the happy Wanderer.

And as was demonstrated on Sunday at Elland Road in cameo, the combination of Jemal Johnson and Jay Bothroyd could be the explosive partnership Wolves have missed in recent times.

The pair together for a full 90 is a mouthwatering prospect indeed.
