Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Nouha Dicko has said he was delighted to get his first goal of the campaign in the midweek clash with Yeovil Town in the EFL Cup.
Hosting the Glovers at Molineux for the first round tie, Wolves took the one nil win courtesy of Dicko’s 76th minute goal and he told the Official Website that now he’s off the mark, hopefully there’s plenty more to come from him as the campaign progresses.
‘When you have big players around you in the box, the defenders maybe focus more on them. If you’re like a fox in the box, you might find a little bit more space and tonight that was the case. I`m delighted to score and sometimes I think to myself that I would like to score from a corner, and it was the case, it`s all good.’
Reflecting on the match itself, Dicko went on to say that with them being hammered by Luton Town eight one in the previous game, we were expecting a tough match because they would’ve been determined to put that right.
‘To be honest we expected a tough game. We knew that at the weekend they lost 8-2, so they were always going to come to Molineux and sit and make it difficult for us because no team wants to concede more goals after a heavy defeat. It was a tough game but we kept going, that`s the good thing, with wave after wave we just kept going and we won. I think the most important thing was that we won – obviously sometimes you want to score more, I think we could have but it`s still early in the season and we still have time to grow, we won and the job is done – that’s the important thing.’
He went on to say.
‘We had to keep going to find a solution – in this game it came from a corner, I think it`s the first time I`ve scored from a corner at Wolves. It`s good, we won and this kind of game makes you grow – we know sometimes we have to find a solution and take more risks. I think next time we have to take more risks to score earlier in the game, but as I said it`s still early in the season and the most important thing is that we won.’
He went on to say that he was also pleased with the goal as having missed out on the Championship opener against Molineux he wanted to prove a point – but all players should go into every game like that.
‘It`s football, I didn’t start against Middlesbrough – that was the manager`s choice and that’s football but when you have the chance you have to go and prove that you are there. I know it was only, not being disrespectful, a league two team, but if I don’t score people will be wondering why I didn’t score against a league two team. I`ve done the job, we`ve done the job and we look towards Derby next weekend.’
Turning attentions to Derby having mentioned them, he went on to say.
‘It`s going to be a different game than the Yeovil game – I`m really looking forward to this game because we haven’t done that well at Derby in the past few years and I really want us to change that. I think we can go there and win – it`s going to be a interesting game because Derby have been doing well for the last few years now. It will be an interesting game for us – a good test, we have a tough start to the season but we have to face these teams and we don’t fear any team. We`re all looking forward to the game – we have a good team, a strong squad, a good manager so I don’t see why we can’t win this game and we`re looking forward to it.’
