It says something about the remarkable change at Molineux brought about by Mick McCarthy’s arrival that a current 2 straight loss run is deemed a crisis.

The last time Wolves lost back to back league matches was in the play off semi- finals, the only time that’s happened under Mick McCarthy. Just think about that.

The team play hosts to Norwich at the weekend aiming to stamp out the individual errors that are at the heart of the current malaise and get back to winning form.


And in his usual style, McCarthy is happy to stand and be counted, and is calling on everyone, both on and off the pitch to pull together to see the club through what is the most turbulent time at the club since his appointment.

‘We all need to look at our performances, including me. I understand the fans’ frustrations and their reaction to the performance (against Hull) because it was poor, it just wasn’t good enough.’ he told The Mail’s Paul Berry.

‘But it’s not a question of the players not working or preparing properly – they do that and put a real shift in all of the time.’

‘It’s a matter of regrouping and being together, not looking for anything else and having faith in everybody at the club.

Should the unthinkable happen and a third loss be recorded, that faith will be tested to the limit.

Patience has never been a Wolverhampton Wanderers trait, and the true measure of McCarthy’s relationship with the fans will be their reaction on Saturday should changes not have their desired effect, and things start to go wrong.

Good will can take you so far, but after that, it’s performance and endeavour on which you’re judged.
