Can Wolves End 31 Year Wait

The highs of the Manchester City victory will slip further from memory this evening if Wolves fail to do what they have been trying since September 1979- beat Arsenal.

Wolves have turned in a series of tremendous performances this season and pushed the big boys all the way- City aside, to little profit.

Let’s hope there is no hangover from our boys in Gold & Black from a second successive painful, late, late defeat at Old Trafford as defeat would prove our 7th in 9 games.

As the only side without a clean sheet in the Premiership, Arsenal, who stat heads are quick to point out, have become the first side this season to register more than a hundred efforts on goal in their eleven league games to date.

All the talk coming from the camp is that confidence remains high, and who can blame our players for that based on recent performances. The season does not start on Saturday, as some have suggested, against our ‘mini league’ encounters against the likes of Bolton, West Brom and Blackpool. The fact is that the season started eleven games ago, we presently stand 19th in the table with just 9 points to our name, and as for the supposedly ‘easier’ games, West Brom and Bolton are both 6 points ahead of us, in 10th and 8th places respectively, whilst Blackpool, everyone’s pres season favorites to sink without trace, have notched up 14 points with some outstanding attacking football.

The upsets continue. It has proven one of the most exciting, and interesting starts to a Premiership season in memory.

Arsenal go into the game smarting from back to back defeats against Shakhtar Donesk in Europe and Newcastle at The Emirates at the weekend.

Two sides who needs points now. With only one defeat in 5 at home this season, we can at least take some confidence from that into the game alongside our excellent recent performances. Our quality and determination finally paid off against Manchester City so let’s hope tonight we maintain standards and can reap something from one of the toughest fixtures the calender can throw at you.

Personally, I expect us to surprise them with an early goal but our failure to defend a lead and our continued lapses in the final stages leave me hoping for a draw at best.
