I may well not have wanted Steve Bruce to get the managerial position at Molineux.
Many others may have felt the same way, but it still doesn’t sit right with me the way we appear to have treated him.
There was a lot written in the papers about the managerial process, which as every day passed turned more and more into a farce.
But one man stood by the sidelines waiting patiently for his chance and that man was Steve Bruce.
As candidate after candidate apparently rejected us, Bruce waited for the call.
He relocated to the area if reports are to be believed and he held, not one but two interviews with chief executive Jez Moxey and owner Steve Morgan.
Bruce was led to believe that the job was his following his second interview and that the deal would be confirmed and announced the following day.
But instead, Terry Connor was handed the role until the end of the season, to the surprise of Bruce.
‘At one stage, I was close, but it wasn’t to be. It’s their prerogative.’ Bruce told the BBC.
He continued: ‘When I left the conversation on Thursday, by all intents and purposes, it was to have another conversation on the Friday,’
‘I said to my good lady I thought I was back to work. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. I’m disappointed.’
On the relegation battle facing Wolves the 51-year-old concluded: ‘When you’re one of the bottom sides, you lose more than you win. When Monday morning comes you have to forget the defeat.
‘Wolves are like Wigan, Bolton and QPR – they have to win 10 games. If you don’t win 10 games, I don’t think you stay up.’
