An awakening to the Championship for Wolves

Up until Sunday Wolverhampton Wanderers had not experienced the true roller-coaster of the Championship.

With the exception of the 3-1 victory over Blackburn, none of our games had seen more than two goals in the Championship this season.

We’ve either won 1-0 (four times), lost 1-0 (once) or drawn either 0-0 or 1-1.

Overall the games have been tight with a single error proving costly, or a moment of quality proving decisive.

But Sunday’s game on Sky Sports was different.

Although after the first 45 minutes, that wasn’t clear. Michael Hector had headed Reading into the lead during the first half but still we had no clue as to what was to follow.

The second half produced five goals. James Henry equalised, then Lee Evans put Wolves in front.

Then Jake Taylor equalised, with all three goals coming within four frantic minutes.

Another mad five minutes just before stoppage time saw Wolves once again take the lead before conceding just moments later for a second time.

‘When you’ve just scored you can’t let a goal in straight away.’ Jackett told the BBC.

He continued: ‘We need to play with that heart and spirit and quality and then learn our lessons defensively.

‘It was end to end, both sides attacked right to the death and for us it’s an awakening to the Championship. A lot of games in the Championship can go either way and you have to get the detail right to make the difference.
