“A transfer is never in our discussion” – Bad news as Wolves-linked 30 y/o plays down exit talk

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Idrissa Gueye as his future is reportedly uncertain at Paris Saint-Germain, less than one year after he joined the Ligue 1 side.

Gueye sees things differently, however, and doesn’t believe a move away from PSG is on the cards after having positive talks with president Leonardo.

The 30-year-old said in an interview with Canal Plus via Goal that “there has never been the question of a transfer in our discussions,” so Wolves’ alleged pursuit of Gueye has been dealt a blow.

He said: “In the world of football, we are never sure of anything but I am often in contact with Leonardo, the club, and there has never been the question of a departure or a transfer in our discussions.

“There is enough respect between us to be able to say things if there was something to be said. Everything that is said today, is purely fake news.”

Nuno Espirito Santo has Morgan Gibbs-White, Leander Dendoncker, Romain Saiss, Ruben Neves, Bruno Jordao and Joao Moutinho at his disposal in midfield but is looking for an addition.

The Black and Gold have been linked with Alhassan Yusuf, Emmanuel Boateng, Morgan Sanson, John McGinn, Franck Kessie, Joao Palhinha and William Carvalho, but Gueye may be the pick of the bunch.

The Senegalese international has made 176 appearances for LOSC Lille (2008 – 2015), 38 appearances for Aston Villa (2015 – 2016), 108 appearances for Everton (2016 – 2019) and 31 appearances for PSG (2019 – present), so he’d bring a wealth of experience to Wolves’ midfield.

Nuno’s chances of signing Gueye look slim after his latest admission.
