Wolves target experienced international with 72-caps – report

|

Wolves join a selection of Premier League clubs who are interested in the signing of Torino’s Nicolas N’Koulou, according to reports.

Torino Granata (via Sport Witness) report that the Cameroonian’s time at the club is ‘destined to end’ in the future, with Wolves, as well as West Ham and Bournemouth, reportedly eyeing up the 72-capped player.

The report says that N’Koulou is ready to wave goodbye to Moreno Longo’s side after joining the club from Lyon back in 2018.

It’s not only the Premier League who are chasing the centre-back, though, with Roma, Lazio and Napoli also admirers of the defender – three teams who are arguably likely to pose more of a threat to the signature of the 29-year-old than the others interested from England.

Would you think we should sign Nkoulou?

However, money talks – and the riches of the Premier League are willing to boost the €1.5m a year the defender already earns a year, and this, according to the report, could put them ahead of the teams in Italy who also want him.

The player is contracted until 2021, so he will only have one year left once negotiations begin in the summer. However, looking at his long list of potential suitors, you can be confident that they will cash in a lot more than the £3.15m that they paid for him nearly two years ago.

The imperious defender is valued at £12.6m, according to Transfermarkt, and has played 19 league games this season without scoring a goal.

It hasn’t been the greatest of seasons for the club as they sit 15th in the table and have lost their last six games on the bounce, including a 7-0 loss to Atalanta and even an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Lecce.

Nevertheless, he has been able to show some positive signs from his performances, having the best pass completion rate in the entire squad (89.7 per cent) as well as the most clearances with 4.7. He also averages 0.9 tackles per game, 2.1 interceptions and 0.7 blocks per game – so there are definitely signs there that he would be a good signing for the club, especially if they can get him at a decent fee.
