The three points and the Black Country derby bragging rights looked all but ours, until the Baggies struck in injury time.

The stats might suggest that it was the least West Brom deserved, but a goal in the final few seconds seems awfully unlucky for Mick’s men.

‘I’m feeling a bit lousy – it seems like a win to them, we played well and just a mistake cost us at the very end but it was a good performance by our lads.’ McCarthy said to the BBC after the game.

He continued: ‘In the first half we were terrific, in the second they had to take chances and push people forward. Overall it was a good performance by us, but we needed that second goal as we don’t get too many 1-0s.’

Wolves had led thanks to Jamie O’Hara’s strike in the 39th minute and that looked to have been enough to give us the three points.

The automatically updating league tables were ready to lock into place with Wolves moving up to 18th, level on points and goal difference with West Brom, but Carlos Vela’s injury-time goal means we slump back to the bottom of the table.

Vital Wolves Comment: At least we didn’t lose ground on the Baggies, so a point isn’t as devastating as it had felt immediately following the game.

A win over Blackpool on Saturday could still see us slide out of the bottom three.
