Back during the earlier months of this summer’s transfer window, the rumour mill rather bizarrely had us linked with Atletico Madrid left back Filipe Luis, but the claims seemed to be coming from only one outlet who were driving the speculation.

Wolves Aren’t Rivalling Barcelona For Experienced Left Back Despite Continued Speculation

As a rumour mill story goes it ticked the boxes, hugely experienced international capped player, the opportunity to put Barcelona in the headline and of course the 33-year-old was set to be a free agent this summer as his club had confirmed he wouldn’t be offered a new deal and would be looking for pastures new.

With the claims going incredibly quiet after the first week of June (at least in terms of offering new details or any advanced claims that would strengthen the story other than relying solely on the Jorge Mendes connection) it was back with a bang this week.

But it was the same rehashed nonsense we’ve seen before where the only new information leant on a report in Spain from Football Espana that Atleti had now secured £22million Renan Lodi.

Curiously, whilst the claims now doing the rounds seem to remember the existence of Ruben Vinagre, Jonny’s 39 appearances for us in 2019/20 seem to have been overlooked when discussing our defensive options. He did only join permanently in January after all.
