It was being reported yesterday that Wolverhampton Wanderers were on the verge of finalising a deal for Manchester City’s young talent Oleksandr Zinchenko.

21-year-old Zinchenko is a left-back but someone who can also operate in midfield and he did make six Premier League starts for Pep Guardiola’s league winners in the season of 2017/18.

The Mirror were one of many to suggest that we were on the verge of completing a proposed £16million deal for the defender. The upfront sum wasn’t listed, it was just speculated that £16million could be the fee when clauses were factored in.

Since moving to the Etihad Stadium for an undisclosed fee from FC Ufa back in the summer of 2016, he has a total of 12 starting appearances to his name with a further two showings from the bench. He spent last season with Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven making six starting appearances and ten substitute showings as he continued his development and he’s certainly highly rated even if he has some way to go yet before he reaches the potential many think he has.

He does have 17 caps for Ukraine despite his tender age though.

If the deal comes off, I would think he’d be one for the future even at that fee but for the price you’d expect him to get a decent run out in cup competitions at least.
