Wolves On The Cusp Of History Again As We Take EL Advantage Over Torino – Match Stats

Wolverhampton Wanderers faced their first real Europa League test earlier this evening as we made the trip to the Olimpico Grande Torino, to face Serie A side Torino in our Qualifying Play-Off first leg.

Europe had carried its own tests so far in terms of unknown quantities, but there was confidence we would comfortably traverse those challenges and we did just that. Tonight was always going to be different though.

Torino better dominated possession and chances on the day, but we made it count when we needed although the scoring on the night was opened by a Torino credited own goal. Diogo Jota doubled our advantage 14 minutes after the half time restart, but two minutes later they made a game of it to make the scores 2-1.

The ever reliable Raul Jimenez took his chance to get on the scoresheet and given I class this as the first proper European game in terms of a challenge, it was a challenge we sailed through. We did, unfortunately, concede an 89th minute penalty so there’s no room for complacency in the second leg. They’ll want a reaction at the Molineux but the advantage is ours.
